Naughty Dog Rumored to be Working on a Remastered Version of The Last of Us Part II
According to recent reports, Naughty Dog, the renowned video game developer, is said to be working on a remastered version of their highly acclaimed game, The Last of Us Part II. The interesting aspect of this rumor is that it was apparently revealed by an employee of the studio on LinkedIn.
As reported by VGC, developer Mark Pajarillo mentioned the project in the work experience section of his LinkedIn profile. He stated that he was responsible for overseeing the production of art assets, weapons, and interactive environment props for two iconic titles, The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered.
Although this revelation may not seem significant on its own, it has caught the attention of many within the Naughty Dog offices. The description on Pajarillo’s profile has since been edited, removing the mention of The Last of Us 2: Remastered. However, it seems that the correction was not entirely successful, as the mention of the remastered version still remains.
While Naughty Dog has not officially announced the remastered version of The Last of Us Part II, it wouldn’t come as a surprise considering the studio’s experience in optimizing their games. The original The Last of Us was remastered for the PlayStation 4 in 2014, just a year after its initial release on the PS3. Additionally, a remake for the PS5 was released in September 2022 and arrived on PC this year.
This is not the first time that hints of a remastered version of The Last of Us Part II have surfaced. In July, composer Gustavo Santaolalla hinted at Naughty Dog working on a «new version» of the game during an interview. Santaolalla mentioned that his participation in the game would be more interactive, allowing players to make him play certain songs.
If the remastered version of The Last of Us Part II is indeed in the works, it is likely that it will not only focus on visual improvements but also address gameplay-related issues. However, there is no official confirmation or release date for this potential remastering.
It is worth noting that players who experienced The Last of Us Part II on the PS5 already enjoyed enhanced graphics. Naughty Dog released a patch in May 2021, allowing users of the next-generation console to play the game at 60 frames per second, compared to the 30 FPS limit on the PS4.
As of now, we will have to wait for further updates on this rumored remastered version. However, considering the recent surge in interest in The Last of Us franchise due to the HBO and Max series, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear more news in the coming months.
