Google Pixel 8a: ¿Un teléfono económico en camino?
Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro have already been released, and Google Pixel 8a could be with us next year, but what are the chances of a truly affordable phone completing the Pixel series? It seems quite slim.
The vice president of Google Mobile Business, Nanda Ramachandran, said in an interview with El estandar (via Policía Android) that there are currently no plans for a low-cost Google Pixel phone. According to Ramachandran, it would involve too many compromises along the way.
If you take the Google Pixel 7a, for example, it still features the Tensor G2 chip inside the Google Pixel 7 Pro, so you don’t lose anything in terms of processor performance, despite the lower price.
Ramachandran also states that the Pixel series will expand to more markets in Europe and Asia, with the aim of making the brand more recognized and, of course, increasing sales at the same time.
The Price is Right
With the Pixel 7a starting at a retail price of $499 / £449 / AU$749, there isn’t much lower to go, but as you can see from our list of the best budget phones, you can get a smartphone for significantly less than the Pixel 7a.
In fact, there has been a price increase between the Pixel 7 series and the Pixel 8 series, which is reflected in the improvements in internal specifications, camera systems, and the extended seven-year support for software and security updates.
The new phones are also packed with AI magic, and cutting those features to reach a price that is around a third of what the Pixel 8 costs wouldn’t make sense for Google at this time, according to Ramachandran.
Google has a solid track record when it comes to its mid-range phones, which do a decent job of balancing price with features (they cost significantly less without too many compromises), so we are interested to see what the Pixel 8a will bring.
