Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 Lead Nominations for Game Awards 2023
The highly anticipated Game Awards is celebrating its tenth anniversary with the upcoming 2023 edition. With less than a month since the announcement of the nominees, the favorites for Best Game of the Year have emerged. Alan Wake 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 are the frontrunners, competing against other notable titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as revealed on the official website of the organization.
Alan Wake 2, developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing, has received an impressive seven nominations this year. In addition to the Best Game of the Year category, it has also been recognized for Best Art Direction, Best Soundtrack and Music, as well as Best Action Game. Similarly, Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios, has also secured seven nominations, including Best Direction, Best Narrative, Best Soundtrack and Music, Best Role-Playing Game (RPG), and Best Multiplayer.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has also received seven nominations, with categories such as Best Sound, Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action Game. Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 has achieved four nominations, while Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder has been nominated in five categories, including Best Multiplayer and Best Family Game. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, also from Nintendo, has received five nominations, including Best Art Direction and Best Action Game.
How the Winners are Determined
The winners will be unveiled on Thursday, December 7, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, United States. The prestigious event will honor the best video games across more than 30 categories. Leading up to the ceremony, fans can cast their votes for their favorites on thegameawards.com or through the Game Awards Discord server.
In addition to the awards, the Game Awards 2023 gala will feature world premieres and exciting news about upcoming video games, as announced by the organizer, Keighley. The Game Awards originated in 2014 as a way for fans and the press to recognize the achievements of the video game industry. Last year’s 2022 edition presented a total of 32 awards, including Best Mobile Game and various categories for eSports.
In the previous edition, the coveted Game of the Year title was awarded to the role-playing game Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware. However, God of War Ragnarok, developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony, was another fan-favorite and received the most awards in six different categories. The Game Awards 2023 can be watched live on the organization’s website on December 7 at 7:30 PM ET, which is 1:30 AM on Friday, December 8 in Spain.
