Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: A Look at the Graphic Modes
The highly anticipated game, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is set to hit stores in Spain and worldwide on February 29, 2024. As a temporary exclusive for PlayStation 5, this game has already generated a lot of excitement among fans. At Vandal, we had the privilege of playing a version of the game that is still in development. In this article, we will focus on one specific aspect of the game: the graphic modes.
Quality Mode vs Performance Mode
Similar to its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for Sony’s latest console, the second part of the trilogy offers players two graphic modes to choose from. The first mode, called Quality, is oriented towards delivering a sharp and visually stunning image. On the other hand, the Performance mode prioritizes a smoother gameplay experience.
In Quality mode, players can expect a stable 4K resolution and a fluidity of 30 frames per second. It is unclear whether any rescaling of the native image is applied in this mode. On the other hand, Performance mode aims to provide a smoother gameplay experience with a focus on achieving 60 frames per second. However, this mode sacrifices resolution, some visual effects, and overall sharpness.
During our play session with the still-in-development version of the game, we were able to witness the stability of both modes. This is also evident in the video materials provided by Square Enix. However, it is worth noting that the 60 FPS mode still requires some fine-tuning as it appears slightly blurry compared to the Quality mode. The accompanying images demonstrate this difference, with the first capture showcasing the 30 FPS mode and the second capture representing the Performance mode.
Our Impressions of Rebirth
In our impressions of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we were captivated by the game’s new features in the combat system, the introduction of open areas, and its intention to cover a much larger part of the original story. With the potential to surprise both veterans and newcomers, this action RPG promises to be a fascinating and spectacular experience.
