Blizzard Faces Constant Demand for Quality Content
Blizzard, the renowned gaming company, finds itself in a challenging position as it strives to meet the constant demand for high-quality content from its community. With a portfolio of incredibly popular intellectual properties (IPs), managing expectations and satisfying everyone is no easy task. In a recent interview with The Verge, Mike Ybarra, the president of Blizzard, shared his thoughts on this matter.
Ybarra acknowledges that players have become increasingly impatient, craving new experiences on a daily, even hourly, basis. However, he emphasizes that Blizzard aims to “react by maintaining a high bar of quality amidst the snowstorm.” While Ybarra doesn’t view this demand negatively, he recognizes the need to balance it with responsible development and meeting player expectations.
Blizzard’s Fearlessness in Creating New IPs
Blizzard is currently occupied with several major projects, including Diablo 4, which recently unveiled the Vessel of Hatred expansion and a new character class. Additionally, Overwatch 2, set to release in the coming weeks, announced a new hero at BlizzCon 2023, with plans for more heroes in 2024. World of Warcraft also made waves by revealing three expansions.
Despite these ongoing endeavors, Ybarra assures that Blizzard remains open and ready to create new franchises, stating, “We are not afraid to develop new IPs.” In fact, the company continues to work on its survival game, with the team doubling in size over the past year.
